So I'm living here out in null sec and for the most part it's great but recently we have had a system camper who sits cloaked up somewhere in space. He's on pretty much from downtime to downtime so we don't even have much of a chance to scan him down. This has been going on for about a week now so this whole time we couldn't really rat or mine at all due to the chance of him dropping a fleet on us. But while there's that risk, he usually is afk just sitting there. Unfortunately, there is no way of us knowing that. And we can't really move systems since the one we're in has and valuable resources which we need and such. So pretty much this guy makes the system inaccessible just by being afk in space cloaked up. So I came up with some ideas CCP could implement to stop such activity.
1. The first one would be to have some sort of fuel that is used while a ship is cloaked up and would slowly get used up over time. It would work much like the cyno fuel, as soon as it is used up, the character becomes visible to everyone else and they would have to get more fuel. The time on the fuel should be pretty long so that you don't have to constantly get more, but it should be a reasonable amount of time so that a character cannot just stay cloaked up infinitely in system like this guy is in ours. I think there should be enough fuel for a regular player to go on a long cloaky roam and still have fuel remaining but not enough for a single player to remain cloaked up in space for days on end.
2. Another solution would be to have some sort of module for a POS that would be able to send out a signal every 5-6 or so hours that would uncloak all of the people in that system. By doing this, it would eliminate the problem of this camper but by having such a long cool down timer, it would eliminate the possibility of people abusing it and constantly uncloaking everyone in system. While maybe a whole system would be too much, one should be able to select up to like 5 or so people in local which they want to uncloak. They long cool down timer would still be in place.
3. The third solution would be to have some sort of icon appear in local next to the character's name if they have been afk in a system for some period of time. I would think somewhere between 30 minutes to an hour would be pretty good. While this could work, I could also see the camper having a macro that would press a button or something so that it would appear as if he is at his computer the whole time. But if there could be a solution that eliminates that, something which detects a distinct pattern in the keystrokes possibly, then this third idea would potentially work as well.
Hopefully one of these ideas or something similar to them could be considered for implementation within the game. I know that if this afk null sec camper problem is solved, not only will it help me and my corp, but also other null sec players.
